General FAQs

Absolutely. Most classes at The Shop are open to all levels (Although we recommend a few “Reformer Foundations” classes before jumping into a “Reformer” if you’re brand new…). Our teachers are skilled at adapting sessions to meet you where you’re at whether you’re brand new or returning after a break.
Some great places to start include:
• Reformer (Foundations)
• Reformer (For Back Pain)
• Mat (Sensory Aware)
• Reformer (For Life) — great if you’re returning to movement later in life or looking for a supportive class with your age group.
You don’t need to be fit, flexible, or experienced, just come as you are, and we’ll meet you there.
Still unsure? Send us a message and we’ll help you choose the best place to begin.

Yes, you're absolutely welcome!
At Shop, we believe in the inherent strength and capability of every pregnant person, just look at what you’re doing right now!
In line with current guidelines, if your pregnancy is uncomplicated, you’re experienced with Reformer, and feel confident modifying for your needs, you’re welcome in any class. We trust in your ability to move intuitively and make the adjustments you need.
If you’d prefer some extra support, we recommend booking a 1:1 before starting group classes. It’s a great way to walk through the guidelines for exercise during pregnancy, learn practical modifications, and feel more confident stepping into class. If you’re navigating pelvic girdle pain or another specific concern, we can also use this time to tailor things to support you best.
Things to keep in mind:
• Reformer (For Back Pain), Reformer (Foundations), and Strength are slower-paced with fewer transitions — often more comfortable during pregnancy.
• Always listen to your body — you’re the expert on how you feel. Move as slowly as you need.
• We’re here to support you — reach out anytime if you’re unsure where to start.Pregnancy is a powerful (and not always easy) season — we're so glad to have you with us.
-
We recommend waiting for medical clearance before resuming group classes postnatally.
Our Postnatal Reformer and Mums and Bubs Mat classes are a great place to rebuild strength gently and intentionally. Schedule
Our Reformer Foundations and Reformer For Back Pain classes also move at a slower, more supportive pace.
If you’d like a more personalised plan to return to exercise, we offer 1:1 and 1:2 sessions for postnatal rehab.
-
Babies are welcome in our Mums & Bubs Mat and Postnatal classes — these sessions are designed with you (and your little one) in mind.
For all other group classes, we’re not able to accommodate babies, as it’s important to us to maintain a safe and focused environment for everyone.
If you’re after a more options, babies are welcome in private or semi-private sessions. You can also book a private group class with friends or your parent group.
-
Yes — with a parent or guardian’s consent, anyone aged 14 and over is welcome to attend regular classes if appropriate.

This is Shop’s Movement Philosophy: a list of values that shape and guide our teaching at Shop;
Body Neutrality
We focus on what the body can do, not how it looks. Our classes centre on function: building strength, improving mobility, and supporting your overall wellbeing. We avoid aesthetic-focused language in favour of benefits that are real, measurable, and meaningful.
Proprioception Over Perfection
There’s no such thing as the perfect posture, it ideally will be ever-changing throughout the day (and class). We focus on helping you feel more connected to your body in all different “postures” to encourage awareness, adaptability, and ease in everyday movement.
Building Strength for Longevity
We’re here to help you build strength that supports your life now and long-term. Our Strength-Based classes follow progressive programming designed to support bone density, joint health, and muscular endurance. Think of it as strength that lasts, not just a quick burn.
Intentional Movement
Every movement we teach has a purpose. Whether it’s a flowing yoga sequence or a strength-based mat class, each session is carefully structured to support your body in relevant, thoughtful ways — no filler, no fluff.
Preparing for Challenge
If a class includes a more complex pose or movement, we’ll guide you there gradually. We build toward challenge with intention, giving your body time to prepare. And if the final shape doesn’t feel right that day, there’s always another version that still gives you the benefit.
Supportive Language
We avoid language that makes movement feel scary or punishing. Your body is strong, adaptable, and built to move. Instead of fear-based cues, we focus on words that build trust, awareness, and confidence in your body’s capacity.
Gentle Guidance
We aim to guide, not command. You might hear, “Can you feel your ribs stay over your pelvis?” rather than “Don’t splay your ribs.” This kind of cueing invites curiosity and connection — not correction for the sake of it.
A Positive Relationship with Movement
Movement should feel good. It should support your body, your nervous system, and the life you want to live. We don’t believe in “earning” anything in our movement practices. We move because it helps us feel better: stronger, clearer, connected.
Everyone Rides Together
Group classes should feel inclusive at every level. Each session offers options so that everyone stays engaged and successful, no matter where they’re starting from.
Movement for Every Body
Shop is for all bodies, all backgrounds, and all experiences with movement. Our classes are inclusive, gender-neutral, and trauma-aware. We’re always evolving as we learn. If this resonates, we’d love to move with you.
-
In most cases, yes, although it depends on your specific needs.
We recommend starting with a 1:1 session so we can get to know your body, understand any limitations, and help guide you toward the right classes or approach. Our teachers are highly trained in body-aware, supportive movement. While we don’t diagnose or prescribe, we’re happy to work alongside your existing health team and support you in integrating any recommended rehab or exercises into your movement practice.
Reformer (For Back Pain), Reformer (Foundations) , Mat Pilates (Sensory Considerate), and Reformer (Postnatal) are also good places to start if a 1:1 isn’t an option for you. View Schedule
-
We aim to provide an inclusive and sensory-aware environment. If you have questions about class access, lighting, noise, or movement modifications, please reach out. We’ll do our best to support you.
Our Mat Pilates (Sensory Considerate) class is designed with lower lighting, minimal noise, and fewer transitions, and may be a great option if you’re looking for a quieter way to move.

Class Types and Memberships
-
We offer a variety of Reformer, Mat, Strength, and Yoga classes —each designed to help you feel stronger, more connected, and more at ease in your body. To learn more, visit our Classes page.
A few of our core styles include:
• Reformer & Reformer (Foundations) – A full-body workout with layered challenges
• Strength – Simple, effective strength training to support long-term health and longevity
• Yoga – Mellow – Breath-led movement that shifts gradually from active flow to grounding stillness
• Reformer (For Back Pain) – A slower-paced class for those managing general aches and pain, wanting to support their postural health, or have been advised to build their core strength by a physio/osteo/chiro -
It depends on what you're looking for .
If you’re new to Pilates or returning after a break, Reformer (Foundations), Reformer (For Back Pain) and Reformer (For Life) are great places to begin — slower-paced, with extra guidance and time to build strength and confidence.
If you’re already confident on the Reformer and up for a challenge, our signature Reformer class offers creative sequences, flowing transitions, and layered options for balance, coordination, and control.
If building muscle is your main focus, our dedicated Strength class blends Reformer work with targeted strength training on the mat— it’s simple, effective, and designed for measurable progress.
If you’re looking for something grounding, Yoga – Mellow or Mat Pilates (Sensory Considerate) might be a good fit. These classes are especially supportive for the nervous system, and can be a great way to care for your mental health as well as your body.
Still unsure? Get in touch— we’re always happy to help you find the right class to start with.
-
Reformer classes use the Reformer machine to support full-body movement, resistance work, and mobility. You’ll build strength, control, and coordination through flowing sequences with layered challenges. You’ll absolutely gain strength in Reformer — especially in your core — but over time, you may need to increase the load to keep progressing strength specifically.
Strength blends Reformer and floor-based strength training using free weights and props. It’s more focused on progressive overload — building muscle in a simple, effective way. These sessions are less flow-based, with a focus on load and targeting specific muscle groups in a progressive, measurable way.
It can be helpful to start with Reformer to build a solid base of body awareness and core control, but it’s not required. You’re welcome to start with whichever class best suits your goals and movement experience.
Many clients enjoy combining a bit of both throughout the week to enjoy the benefits of both.

Arriving & Studio Experience
-
Just bring a water bottle (we have filtered water on tap), grip socks for Reformer (available to purchase at the studio if you forget or need a pair), and comfortable clothes to move in. Leggings, trackies, singlets or t-shirts are perfect.
Mats and all props are provided. If you would prefer to bring your own mat, you are welcome to do so.
Please don't bring your mobile phone into class with you.
We provide shelves for you to leave your personal belongings. The door is locked during class, but we recommend that you leave valuables at home as we can't take responsibility for any missing items.
-
Please arrive 5–10 minutes early so you have time to settle in and we can start on time. If it’s your first visit, give yourself a few extra minutes so we can show you around and help you get set up.
For the comfort and focus of everyone in class, the front door will be unlocked 15 minutes before your class begins, and locked 5 minutes after it begins.
-
You’ll be welcomed in and shown where to put your things. Your teacher will check in with you, answer any questions, and then invite you to choose a Reformer or Mat before class begins.
If you arrive early and the door is locked, it just means the previous class is still finishing up — we’ll let you in as soon as we’re ready.
All you need to bring is a water bottle, grip socks, and comfy clothes to move in. Mats and props are all provided.
Pilates and Yoga can be hard work! You might not love every minute — and that’s okay. Class may challenge you physically, mentally, or emotionally at times.
We encourage you to listen to your body and consider the bigger picture — your energy, stress levels, and sleep. There’s no pressure to keep up, and you're always welcome to modify or rest when needed. We’re here to support you, so please ask anytime.
